2021 - Here we are in our 11th year at Thistly Cross
Last year the allotments proved to be a popular retreat for those who wanted to get fresh air and exercise, and some space during the coronavirus restrictions. Hopefully 2021 will see the virus managed and reduced to levels that will allow us to return to some form of pre-covid normality. The development of a variety of vaccines is very encouraging. Until then stay safe and maintain the FACTS guidelines:
F - where necessary wear a face covering.
A - avoid crowded areas.
C - clean you hands regularly.
T - maintain two metres distancing from others.
S - Self isolate and seek a test if you develop symptoms.
A big thank you to the NHS and all those who have worked so hard, put themselves at great risk, and often paid the ultimate price, to look after, protect us and our loved ones, and maintain the services we rely on, but so often take for granted.
A snowy start to the year with some nice sunshine, cool temperatures and light to heavy frosts.
May - After a period of wind, drought and freezing cold days and nights, the rain has returned with some warmth, but the nights are still on the cool side.
A hare has been living in our allotments for some months. Some have reported that their young plants have been munched. So be sure to protect your produce from hungry pests, including the ever present pigeons.
A number of the disused plots have now been reallocated. It's nice to see a lot of new faces about.
Another terrific year for soft fruit and veg. An abundance of apples and pears.
Storm Arwen 25th November - Hopefully you didn't experience any damage brought about by the storm or Storm Barra that followed close behind on 6th December and with the light snow that came with it.
December 2021 - Please be mindful of the current Avian Flu restrictions if you keep birds on your plot. See the links for further information on the Allotment News page - Avian Flu information
