New Lease
The owner of Thistly Cross Allotments has now issued new leases to the majority of plot holders, for a further 5 years. Those who have not maintained their plots in a satisfactory condition have not be offered a new lease. Plot rent, for the next 5 years, is £115 per year.

Thistly Cross Waiting List is now closed
A decision was taken on 11th April 2025 to close the waiting list for our allotments. All 46 plots are currently occupied, and our waiting list is lengthy, to the extent that those at the end of the list are likely to wait a minimum of 6-7 years before being offered a plot. We recognise the huge interest in obtaining an allotment and have written to East Lothian Council highlighting the need to create more sites across the county.

2026 - New Leases issued for 5 years
The landowner has kindly agreed to issue plot holders with new leases for the next 5 years.
Some plots have become vacant due to a number of plot holders not maintaining their allotments in accordance of their old leases, and these have not been renewed. As such, the vacant plots will be offered to persons at the top of the waiting list, in due course.
Volunteers, to help maintain common paths, grass verges etc. are always welcome.
2025 - Welcome to all our new allotmenteer's
We have 5 new plot holders this season. We wish you all the best in your new venture and the very best of enjoyment in transforming your allotments into a place of peaceful tranquility, relaxation and plentiful fresh produce.
2024 - Administration Changes
Our long-term organiser, George Barton, has stepped down after many years of service to Thistly Cross Allotments. We thank him for the valuable service he has given to all of us and wish him and his family well for the future.
In April 2024, an administration committee formally took over the management of our allotments. The volunteers will look after the running of the Thistly Cross project on behalf of the private owner.

If you have any unwanted garden tools, benches, plants or materials that we gardeners could use, please leave them by the allotment gate with a note for the items to be put to good use.
Avian Flu Alert!
Avian Flu is on the increase in Scotland again. A number of wild bird deaths have been found in Dunbar in July 2023.
The body responsible for enforcement of the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) poultry housing measures is your local authority, and they should be the recipients of any reports of non-compliance with any restrictions in force. As such, Avian influenza controls, including the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ), are enforced by Trading Standards or Environmental Health Service of a local authority.
Within East Lothian reports of non-compliance should be reported to [email protected]
